The Ultimate Guide To Learn Affiliation Marketing As A Beginner

If you are here, it probably means that you are looking for some exciting info about HOW to start affiliation marketing. In this guide I will share with you 5 easy steps to start affiliation marketing when you are a beginner!

I know it can sound difficult, but it is not. Trust me. I was there and I was lost. You just need to implement a good strategy and hard work.

A little disclaimer: I am not an expert in affiliation but I have studied it, I have taken courses to learn how to do it because in 2021, it’s very important to spread the eggs in different baskets and affiliation is definitely something you MUST do because it doesn’t require a lot. Except for a (big) dose of motivation, consistency and work.

1 – DEFINE YOUR NICHE & AUDIENCE

What the hell is she talking about? 🙄

Don’t run away I will explain!

A niche is a small portion of people, it’s a group of people.

It is basically your target:

  • who do you want to talk to,
  • who is your audience,
  • who do you want to share info with?

Your audience is related to your passion. It can sound very easy but it can be pretty hard to find your niche and especially nail down your ideal client. And the reason why it is hard, it’s because it’s one of the most important thing in your business (if not the most). It’s very important because everytime you want to find a product to promote, you will NEED to ALWAYS think about your niche. You need to understand your audience to be able to choose and propose a product they NEED and WANT.

So what is your passion? And what do you feel like sharing?

A few tips to select the topic(s) you want to share:
  1. What do you love doing?
  2. What is THE thing you could do your whole life WITHOUT being paid for?
  3. What are you good at? (If you don’t know, ask your friends & family)
  4. What type of advice do your friends and family ask you for?
  5. What are your skills?

Also, when you start, I recommend to just work with a product that you LOVE, that you have tried, and to start with only one product to get familiar with, to learn how to properly promote it.

2 – REGISTER IN AN AFFILIATION PLATFORM

After defining your niche and your target audience, you obviously need to find services and/or products you want to promote and recommend.

And for you to do that, there are a few platforms you can register in.

The best affiliate platforms you will find in the market:

Depending on which platform you are working with, the process will be different. In CJ affiliate for example, you have to setup your account, writing what you do, who you do it for etc… Once the registration is done, you can go through the website and look for the products you want to promote.

Also, some of them are free, some are not. At the beginning, start with a free platform to get familiar with the job. Then when you start to see good results and that you see that you actually like doing it, then you can register in others.

What you can also do if you have already taken some courses that might be relevant to your audience, you can reach out to them directly to ask if they have affiliation program.

3 – CREATE A COMMUNITY

Now that you know who your target audience is, that you have an idea about what product you want to talk about, it’s time to create your community!

Here, there is no right or wrong. What I highly recommend that you do what you feel comfortable with. If you feel comfortable about going on Instagram and create content on this platform go for it. Though, if you don’t feel like going there, don’t !! And this is very important because the results are going to be very different!

Do what you feel like. There is no right or wrong.

A few things that you can do:
  • Create a blog and an email list
  • Create an Instagram account
  • Create a Tik Tok account
  • Create a YouTube channel
  • Create a Pinterest account
  • etc…

You have a lot of options where to promote the products. Choose what you prefer and give 100%.

What’s good to consider is to know where your audience is. Are they more on Instagram, YouTube? Do they read more blog post?

Once you selected a platform, be CONSISTENT in the content creation.

4 – GET TRAFFIC AND GENERATE SALES

Creating and having a community that trusts you is the most important so please, take care of it because it’s gonna be a game changer!

Build trust, show results (ok I know at the beginning you can’t), be transparent and honest. I insist on these words because there are so many imposters online that you need to show to your audience that they can trust you!

Once you have created your social media account(s), you need to create content (of course) and be consistent to be able to drive traffic to your affiliate links. Your links can be exposed in a Linktree (a link that you add in your bio on Instagram with the products you recommend), they can be in your blog, under your YouTube videos, shared in your emails etc…

To be able to get traffic you have 2 options:
  • Organic traffic: based on your content. Meaning that you attract traffic naturally with your content shared on Social Media.
  • Paid advertisement: in this case, you would need to create advertisements on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube etc… to bring traffic to your links/platforms/accounts.

A few tips to generate organic traffic:
  • If you have a blog or want to have one, writing article every week will be very helpful. In this case you would need to learn SEO basics to please the search engine.
  • Another tip if you want to create a blog, there is an amazing platform to use to generate organic traffic: Pinterest!
  • If you only focus on social media (Instagram, Facebook, Tik Tok, YouTube) you need to be consistent, to create content with a lot of value to be able to attract people and to make them want to follow you.

At first, I would say go for organic traffic because it’s free, natural and this is how you build trust and a strong community. Though, it takes more time.

If you want to go faster, go for the paid traffic.

Creating proximity with your audience will have a massive impact in your development. If your audience trusts you, they will buy from you and buy what you recommend. If they don’t, be sure they are gonna go away.

Once you have built this trust, your community, your blog, your email list etc… you will start to make money money!
